Summary: Translation companies are the core resources in translation industry. They make it possible to integrate with all kinds of resources related to translation and interpretation to provide added value to the translation work. But how to evaluate a translation company value to your business needs? The author argues some essential minds to make your decision to assign your jobs to a proper translation company.
There are mainly 5 types of translation resources in this industry today.
The first and most important are translation companies who integrate with the other resources of translators, proofreaders, interpreters, industrial specialists and project managers. Some advanced means are applies such project management software, quality control process and CAT (computer assisted tool) by most translation companies. Except for automatic mechanical translation, translation companies are engaged in the management of manual translation of human resource. The two types of resources of human translation and project management are combined into translation company operations. Translation companies are engaged in searching translator resources, evaluating language utility capability and raising value of these resources by management methods such as revising, editing and smoothing the translated texts via many staff collaboration including proofreading, professional reviewing and DTP. A qualified translation company should make quality improved to add values to translators and DTP engineers’ team work. Translation companies should not only be a broker. They are making service products to provide values of brain and knowledge management.
A client should know what the core management value is on the process of the quality control ways.
Management means to raise the value of the translation team’s work. If a translation company only complies with only a vague and general work flow but neglect the core contents of translation work. They can be called only brokers. Clients certainly don’t want this type of translation resource.
The value of management for translation team’s work is also evaluated by considering the CAT (computer assisted tool) means that a translation company applies. The standard glossary and consistency of translated sentences have to be applied in content management process. Then a real time collaborative work of a team for one big project can be achieved by reference with one another between the translators for the projects and database on the server operated with SQL Server professional. Thus a quality project can be achieved with SDL Server professional in a short period of time.
The evaluation to translation resources has another important aspect to be considered-the human. Not only the translator team but also the project manager or even the owner (or general manager) makes great impacts on the final translation products delivered to clients. They compose a business operation style whose core value is good credit degree. Credit value not only shows on time delivery, good quality and circumspect service but also on the most important aspect contributes to accidental situations on the benefit of clients. This is the highest level of credit degree.
It is necessary to investigate on human resources when you want to assign your translation job to a company.. They should tend to provide customized service besides standard one.
The credit can be verified by what others comment on some reputation categories (white and black list) online and testimonials from other clients, but you must investigate with analysis and judgment by yourself. Testimonials can be bought by some reputation makers and some comments are sometimes made by competitors or opponents who are exactly unfair. You can judge by possibility, logicalities and fairness of those comments, then contact one that you feel nice. The sixth feeling is now working for the future result.

Very interesting but I agree with MHA123 - more needs to be said on the subject as it determines the success of a project.

Best,
